The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program has been existence on the Fresno State campus for over 10 years. Fresno State HCOP has long been established on the campus of the university and for the past nine years has worked in partnership with the UCSF Fresno Latino Center for Medical Education and Research (UCSF-Fresno LaCMER). In the fall of 2004, LaCMER and HCOP worked jointly to successfully compete for HCOP grant funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Health Professions which has been awarded for years 2005-2008. LaCMER, who is the principal investigator (i.e. the main grantee) of this current grant, has served in the past as the major funding partner for Fresno State HCOP and continues to support programmatic activities and additional funding for a subsidiary program the Hispanic Center of Excellence (HCOE) Through this collaborative, UCSF-Fresno LaCMER has provided Fresno State HCOP and HCOE student participants and staff a strong bridge to UC,San Francisco - one of the premier institutions of higher learning in the nation and in the world.
